The obverse (front) of the coin is based around the badge of the Royal Air Force and is the heraldic emblem used to represent the RAF which features an Eagle superimposed on a circlet which is surmounted by a crown. The RAF Moto 'Per Ardua Ad Astra' in translation 'Through Endeavour To The Stars' along with Sir Winston Churchill's historic words 'Never Was So Much Owed By So Many To So Few' are also featured, along with the name W. Churchill.

The reverse of the coin features the RAF logo in full colour and the words 'Royal Air Force' and 'Over Luxembourg 1940-1945.
